FIDE Rating boom in November rating list For Nigerian Chess players
The recent increase in FIDE Sanctioned chess tournaments is paying off as the November rating list by the World Chess governing body FIDE released on December 1 2014 has revealed.
There are a number of Nigerian players getting their first ever rating from the Chess Body thus adding to the number of players in Nigeria that are rated by FIDE , The Rating of a player is an estimate of the player's playing strength and ability.
The Reigning Nigerian National champion CM Kigigha, Bomo is now the highest rated chess player in Nigeria at the moment at ELO 2291 Ranked number 1 in Nigeria and number 52 among active players in Africa, he is followed by two International masters Aikhoje, Odion 2274 and Akintola, Fola 2248 ranked second and third respectively.
Among the newly rated Chess Players are Dieyi, Roland 2220 (Highest rated among the newly rated) Edunwale Hakeem 2205 Unwana, Eugene Ekpoikong 2197, Osunfuyi , Abimbola 2190, Eluekezie, Chukwuwikeh 2180, Ajele, Rotimi 2140, Onokpite, Kennedy 2130 , Edet, Udeme 2119 , Dennis, Ogbogho 2114, Emuakpeje, Ochuko 2094 , Ugushidah, Ikorogbudu 2081, Koko, Obubele 2080, Eyenghe, Sunny 2070, Dr Martin, Odum 2045 among others .
This is a very good development to Nigerian chess as the implication of this is that the number of FIDE rated Chess players available for Chess tournaments is now on the increase many thanks to the current President of Nigerian Chess Federation Mr Olalekan Adeyemi and also to the Stake holders in Chess Players Association of Nigeria, For the first time in history the Nigerian breweries Chess Championship NBL 2014 was a FIDE rated touernament.
Chess is the most prestigious Board game/sports which is known to develop one's mental capacity in Logical reasoning and mathematical acumen , Nigeria is blessed with great Many Talents in this royal game and we are hoping that More Corporate bodies /Companies will invest money into the sponsorship of Chess tournaments in the country, with the increasing Number of FIDE rated players in the Country it gets more and more easier for the yet to be rated Chess players to get rated by being able to play the minimum number of Rated players required to get one's first rating under FIDE.
