The African Individual chess Championship entered its day five with Nigerian players still in the race for glory at the tournament taking place in Namibia , though with 'mixed' results the Nigerian players are still within range of making the requirements for chess titles and even prize range with determination and a bit of luck.
In round four- Open section , CM Fawole John Oyeyemi (Nigeria) lost to GM Adly Ahmed of Egypt while CM Kigigha Bomo (Nigeria) defeated FM Olebile Thato of Botswana after a hard fought battle, IM Farahat Ali of Egypt beat FM Phiri Richmond on board one and now leads the second ranked IM Jere Daniel of Zambia with one point being the only player in the tournament with a perfect 4/4 score, FM Wanyama Harold rated 2241 of Uganda appears to be in good form as he remained undefeated in four games as he drew with IM Van Den Heever Donovan of South Africa to put himself on a 3/4, CM Magana Ben of Kenya who missed the first two games due to travel/ transit visa issues beat Chimthere Alfred Charles of Malawi and is now on 2/4,IM Jere Daniel of Zambia remains on top after a draw with highly rated IM Cawdery Daniel of South Africa. In the Women's Section Nigeria's Rabiu Olabisi and winner of the Zone 4.4 tournament is back in winning ways as she got her second win in a row by defeating a higher rated Gondwe Vitumbiko of Malawi,
ROUND FIVE
As the tournament gets to the high way point , it gets tougher for the men on top boards though it appears at present that IM Farahat Ali of Egypt is poised to win the tournament and hand Egypt yet another Grand master title , but with five rounds still to be played nothing is certain and the top spots are still very much open to the determined minds. in round five IM Farahat Ali is paired against
South african International master Cawdery Daniel on board one ,FM Wanyama Harold of Uganda is up against IM Jere of Zambia while the South African GM-elect , IM Solomon Kenny is on a collision course against GM Adly Ahmed of Egypt. CM Kigigha Bomo of Nigeria is paired against IM Van Den Heever Donovan of South Africa on board 5 while CM Fawole John Oyeyemi (Nigeria) is paired against CM Handjaba Mclean of Namibia.
