Ekpoikong Uwana Eugene is the Champion of the second edition Benin Chess tournament held from 15th to19th December 2014 at Indoor Sports Hall, Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State. Uwana Eugene has finally placed his name among the best chess players in Nigeria and this is the second tournament he will be winning in two weeks, he earlier won the Masters Category of the Median edition of the NCF presidents chess tournament held in Warri held just before the Benin tournament. This second edition which is FIDE sanctioned (rated) featured many prominent Nigerian Master chess players in the Masters Category , players like Balogun Oluwafemi (2200), Ekpoikong Uwana Eugene (2200), Eluekezi phoenix Chukwuikeh (2180), Onokpite Kennedy (2133),Oghogho Dennis (2116), Emuakpeje Ochuko (2095) and Onovughe Ochuko (2052 ) among other players in the Master category.
In Round one Ekpoikong Uwana Eugene defeated Enemchukwu benjamin Chinedu , Anwuli Daniel in round two, drew with Emuakpeje Ochuko in round three, he defeated Oghogho Dennis in round four, Balogun Oluwafemi in round five, drew with Igubor Micah before defeating Onovughe Ochuko in the final round to finish on six points out of a possible seven.
