All African games (AAG) Nigeria Chess coach hopes for medal harvest

The Nigeria Chess coach Lekan Adeyemi is hoping to feature the best possible chess team at the All Africa Games when the chess event starts on Tuesday 6th of August 2011,

Chess Team Nigeria is made up of 10 players- five men and Five women, The paring on Tuesday will indicate which country Nigeria will be taking on in the first round of the chess event.


The Chess coach said the Team is not afraid of meeting any opponent. The coach has at his disposal FIDE master Adebayo Adegboyega (Small B) International master (IM)Bunmi Olape, FM Benjamin Omorere, CM Charles Campbell ,and ajibola Olanrewaju For the Male team and Tobi Olatunji, Rosemary Amadasun, Nsisong Bassey, Doris Adebayo, Olufunmilayo Akinola For the Female Event.

The Coach indicates that it is better to start the event with the best players and that team Nigeria is not expecting less than five golds at the AAG.

Nigeria’s Toughest Opponents in the chess event are Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and south Africa , in African chess. Missing in the Nigerian Line up in the male event is the Current National Champion Ochuko Raphael Darius Emuakpeje who dropped out of the second stage of the qualifying trials due to ill health.Nigeria won three gold medals at the last edition of the All African games and with the medal winning coach Lekan Adeyemi still in control, Nigeria is hoping for a better performance. - Edited By Akinov chess
