TEAM NIGERIA (Chess)
Nigerian Chess team continued in their quest for glory in the ongoing 2011 All African games in Maputo. After their Glorious start in Round one .The Team Nigeria (Men) chess team played a two all (2-2) draw with the tough Algerian team. while their female counterpart had a two all (2-2) result with a determined south African side. On the female boards Nigeria came from 1-2 down to getting a draw with south Africa with Tobi Olatunji getting the second point for Nigerian women team to make it two all.on Board 4. after an earlier win by Nsisong on top board in a fascinating sicilian defence game. Funmi and Rosemary Amadasun both lost on board three and four.
In the Men's encounter the Star game of the day saw Ajibola Olanrewaju completely crush 2394 ELO rated IM Mohammed Haddouche on board one. while IM Bunmi Olape won on board four. Charles Campbell and Benjamin Omorere however lost on board two and three to make it two all (2-2) Bayo Adegboyega (small B) was rested for this interesting round.
. we are hoping to see more explosive games in future rounds particularly against tougher opponents like Egypt (for the Men especially). the Nigerian Chess coach Lekan Adeyemi remains optimistic that Chess team Nigeria will stay in gallant form and fight every battle as they come. The male team will be facing Zambia a tough opponent tomorrow in Round 3 while the Female team will be up against host Mozambique .
