Despite a not too rosy career at the moment, self-styled king of the Zanga,Oluwadamilare “Durella” Okulaja, is now a brand ambassador for chevalier Brandy. The shayo crooner was unveiled at a glamorous ceremony which held recently at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Lagos. The managing Director, Grand Oak Limited, Manufacturers of the drink,Fatai Odesile, says the brandy is targeted at upwardly mobile young men and women ,a class ,which Durella purportedly represents.

Odesile Further says, “The repackaged Chevalier brandy now comes in a squat balance handy romantic bottle with a Light brown and beautifully designed pack with some of the finest natural ingredients and distillation process.

In his reaction to the endorsement deal, Durella says, “I always take Chevillier whenever I need to be in the mood”.

He notes further that while growing up, his grandfather used to take the drink to seduce his grandmother. phew!

Winner of the 2008 MTV and Zain Advance warning contest, Durella has continued to establish himself as a singer to watch and court but the similarities in style, mannerism and voice he shares with D’banj have ensured he remains the shadow of the latter.

is 09141 a killer phone number ??

on the 14th of September 2011 , i got the gist that there is a text message in circulation that there is a deadly killer number being used to call people and once you pick the call, you drop dead, as a rule i do not usually dignify such preposterous discussion with my comments, so i went about my life like i heard nothing about it.

It was not until noon of same day (yesterday) that the rate at which everybody was talking about it got irritating and annoying, obviously the gist has gone round the country , no thanks to GSM phones/text messages. the annoying part was at exactly 2:07 PM while stressing my self making en quires at Guarantee trust bank as to why my international cheque has not been credited into my Domiciliary account i got an SMS alert. excited that it was a notification from the bank, i quickly checked the content. behold the text message reads

Please, don't pick any call with 09141 its instant death after the call, 7 people have died already.please tell others fast,its urgent.

i tried calling the number immediately but was told the number does not even exist in the first place, i also figured out that the number appears to be the date of the day it was sent 091411 just leaving out the last digit, and if you rearrange the number its 14190 !!

If i believe that 09141 is a killer number , then i must also think the world is flat, that having intercourse in the afternoon will produce albino kids and that there are fairies living at the end of my garden.

I then started wondering how this kind of Hoax/rumors thrive in Nigeria, the most annoying part of it is the text went viral and everybody were just forwarding it to family and friends irrespective of religion, ethnic or educational background is it that we are so impressionable??

Is it true that the average Nigerian will believe anything no matter how ridiculous ,or incredibly illogical without asking simple questions relating to the facts put forward such as ascertaining if truly people have died, what location, the time and how it was arrived at that the cause of death was as a result of receiving a phone call placed randomly with the intention of wiping out the entire population.(LOL)

Little wonder , The Government and the dubious politicians that constitute our government has continually put us in bondage by feeding us with all forms of lies knowing the average Nigerian will believe anything and be contended with it. no wonder it is easy for some religious bodies to easily ca joule their followers with the intent of defrauding them , believe me, not everybody under the convicted Reverend King was spiritually hypnotized, we not only suffer from physical poverty as a people in Nigeria but from the poverty of Logic and basic intelligence

Next thing you will hear is Please don't pick "private numbers" (Numbers withheld-no number) 15 people have died so far" that will be enough to prevent dear Nigerians from picking calls with no number and some may even miss important calls as a result of this prank madness. Nonsense !!

FIFA investigate Falcons Coach Eucharia Uche for discriminating againt Lesbianism

World football governing body, FIFA is initiating investigation into Eucharia Uche's comment about getting rid of lesbians in the Super falcons. The super Falcons coach caused a stir in a New York times interview on the eve of the FIFA Women's world cup in Germany this year when she labeled Homosexuality "dirty"

" yes the lesbians in our team were really a big problem.But since i am coach of the super Falcons , that has been cleared up " there are no more lesbians on my team,i cannot tolerate this dirty life", Eucharia Uche was quoted as saying in the New York Times.

Her comments generated a lot of controversy drawing attention from the international scene more so as the Female German squad had reserve Goal keeper, Ursula Holl is married to a woman in a Lesbian union and first choice Nadline Angerer is widely believed to be bi-sexual

The Falcons coach's statement was considered homophobic drawing the wrath of three international gay groups namely Allout, the federation of Gay Games, and the international Gay and Lesbian Football association. the three Gay group secured 46,000 signatures for a petition to condemn homophobia forcing FIFA to open an inquest into the allegation.

AllOut co-founder Anre Banks was quoted in Tuesday's edition of GayNZ.com Daily News as saying " By launching an immediate probe into coach Uche's homophobic statement, the international body of soccer is sending a clear and important message: homophobic has no place in football,on and off the field"

FIFA through its head of Women's competition Tatjana Haenni, had said ion June it will talk to the Nigerian Coach about her comment

" FIFA is against all forms of discrimination",Haenni told German television channel, ARD.

i believe The Falcons coach has a right to enforce what will preserve the traditions and societal values of Nigeria/Africa in her team. she was clearly referring to the Super Falcons and not to players of any other team. Homosexuality remains illegal and against the laws of the federal Republic of Nigeria as a country and it is only logical for the citizens of Nigeria making up the Female National team to abide by the laws of the country And the falcons coach reserves the right to ensure that the laws of the country is not contravened by any of her players and expressing that fact in an interview is not in anyway discriminatory as long as it is about the Super falcons and not about the members of other teams from countries where homosexuality has been legalized.

I was in a car on my way to my Office when I heard about this strange occurrence in Akure the Ondo state Capital it was being talked about over the Radio.The incidence was alleged to have happened on the 8^th of September 2011, at 3 A.M to be precise. As usual I do not take stories like this seriously so I just mentally waived it aside. After all I was in this “Naija” when the police arrested a goat for armed robbery. i met people who were eager to start a discussion on the witchcraft topic but I was always quick to change the topic to areas with more impact on the retina of my mind like Boko Haram, Bombings,possible revolution in Nigeria and even UEFA Champions league football fixtures.

On the 13^th of September (today) I was in Magistrate court one , Akure magisterial district ,Oke Eda Akure Ondo state for a matter (by virtue of my profession) we waited for the Magistrate to emerge from his chambers till 10 :30 AM . and when he emerged . Alas !! the first charge to be read was that of the Woman who was alleged to have transformed into a cat !! first thing that came to my mind was. Is read about witchcraft cases in the dallies but never had a first hand experience where I will be watching all the “principal actors” I have decided to share this interesting tale with my readers. Most importantly as a first hand witness!! the usual question i always ask is how possible it is for this to happen and i sometimes wonder if media houses like P.M news make up all stories like this, but now i am seeing it First hand right before my eyes and in a better position to analyse if a human can actually transform into a cat!!

The accused was brought before the court, docked and the charge read to her, after which she pleaded not guilty having elected to be tried by the court. The prosecution had all their witnesses present., the first prosecution witness was one Mrs Agnes Onigbara , she said at about 3.A.M in the night her husband woke her up that the

y should go into prayers and that while they were at it, they heard foot steps on the roof and after a few minutes there was a crashing noise , they observed that something has crashed into their bedroom through the roofing sheet and asbestos into their bedroom, She narrated further that she shouted “Blood of Jesus” !! and since it was dark they used her husbands phone as a touch light to enable them take a better look at the object which they discovered to be a human being, a woman with just a piece of wrapper barely covering her nakedness. She said the woman appealed to them not to beat her, but to open the door and allow her go out of the premises.

The couple refused and then decided to take her to their Landlord who is a prophet; one Ilesanmi Adebayo .she said the Prophet then used a Broom to make her confess. She confessed that she is a witch and was on her way back from the coven and was in form of a white cat when she crashed through their ceiling and that she has the power to travel from Ondo state to Kaduna in 10 minutes in form of a cat. Among other things. A mob had already gathered ready to stone her to death but she was locked up in a safe place till the Nigerian Police came to effect her arrest.

now i am just wondering how on earth did she get up there? was she insane like i suspect the defense lawyer might try to prove later? is she really a psychiatric patient? but then how easy is it for a woman to have climbed unto the roof of the house without the aid of a ladder ??

The husband of the lady that gave the second testimony as a prosecution witness two said an when she fell through the roof , she fell as an object that was beaming and shinning like lightning before she became a human being, but the wife and everybody agreed they never really saw the cat!they never saw her turn either from a cat to human or from a human to a cat. All that they relied on was her confession even so why was there a need to use a phone torch light to see a shinning object in the dark ? but still how easy is it for a woman to have climbed unto the roof of the house without being aided? then for the weight of the woman to have caused her to crash through the roof, it means she was human before she crashed through, or was it that she transform back to human before crashing through? but what was she doing at the wrong place at the wrong time? at least it is incontrovertible that she actually crashed in!

Many questions begging to be answered.

In the confessional statement of the "cat woman " she said her mother initiated her into witchcraft at Fadaka at Araromi Akure a five years ago by giving her roasted rabbit at about noon and she found herself at the coven on the night of that day, and has been a witch ever since, she said she killed her own brother because he refused to give her five hundred Naira in January 2011. she also added that she attended witchcraft meeting with Bukola,Shade,Yemi and Segun who also turn to Cats of Different colours while she turns to a white cat.

the question here is what will the court decide in this case regarding the witchcraft charges? was this kind of scenario envisaged by the criminal code (Law)? certain things has been proved/ alleged.

1. she actually crashed through the roof of the house at 3 A.M in the night ,raising the question how did she get up there?

2 she did confess she was in a cat form before crashing through the roof? raising many questions as well !!

3. she broke the roofing sheet and asbestos of the apartment in the process, evidenced by the pictures tendered as exhibit in court. meanwhile she was granted bail to the tune of one fifty thousand naira with two sureties in like sum and condition that one of the sureties must be her husband and the other a close relation. the case was adjourned till 23rd September 2011 for the Defense to open his case.

The pertinent question now is how do humans really turn to cats , is this for real?? comments please !!

The Nigerian chess team fell to the superior fire power of the higher rated Egyptian team in the round 6 open section of the chess event at the all African games. Ajibola Olanrewaju, CM Charles Campbell and CM Benjamin Omorere lost on Board 1,2 and 4 while( FIDE Mater) FM Adebayo Adegboyega 2284 ELO drew against the 2434 rated International master Ezat mohamed .an indication that Adebayo and a few other player if exposed to constant high level tournaments have the talent to attain the highest heights in the game of chess,if only corporate bodies can rise up to the occasion and sponsor chess/chess players.

All African Games 2011(Chess) Team Nigeria gets tough tie in round six (6)

The Nigerian Chess team faces a uphill task against a highly rated Egyptian side in the open section of the ongoing All African Games taking place in Maputo, Mozambique . Ajibola Olanrewaju rated 2124 will be on a collision course with the 24 year old Egyptian Grand master Adly, Ahmed Rated 2605 who won the African chess championship in 2005 and the junior world Championship in 2007 . CM Charles Campbell (2008) will test his solid defense against IM Shoker ,samy (2512) ,FM Adebayo Adegoyega(2284) Small B will be playing white against IM Ezat mohammed (2434) while CM Omorere Benjamin (2223) plays the black side against IM Abdel Razik, Khaled (2424).

Nigeria will be looking forward to an upset of an obviously higher rated Egyptian side especially on Board one to three. Bunmi Olape is rested for this round for tactical reasons.

Chess is one of the events that gives Nigeria chances of medals now that the country are not doing well in sports they usually dominate. Nigerian Government and corporate bodies should consider sponsoring more chess competitions in the Country.

As has been widely reported I was involved in an altercation with a work colleague during the week. I am deeply regretful of what transpired and have taken full responsibility for my actions. I have privately apologized to my colleague, the team that I work with and I am taking this opportunity to apologize to the public at large.

As humans we all make mistakes and I made a major one which is completely out of character. I over reacted to a situation and that is something that will never repeat itself.

Despite being at the centre of a media feeding frenzy, I’ve been silent in order to allow the organization, to which I’m affiliated with and at who’s premises the incident occurred, to carry out its investigations and come to a conclusion but most importantly to allow the aggrieved party (Mr. Adewunmi Oyekanmi) time to accept my heartfelt apology.

While the events have been distorted, I am very apologetic about the situation but picking holes in the media reports or pointing out the falsehoods will not be useful, however, any kind of loss of control is not excusable and I have since tendered an unreserved apology to 'Dewunmi. I have always preached against violence and so this is a time for some reflection. Again, I apologize and I thank ‘Dewunmi for accepting my apology.

I would like to thank the hundreds of people who called me and those who sent in messages

An open letter from a Beat FM employee( to LINDA IKEJI)

Dear Linda,
This letter had to be written anonymously because we have been ‘instructed’ not to speak to the press. We are appalled by Olisa Adibua’s actions, and feel his physical assault on Dewunmi was barbaric and completely wrong. What’s even more shocking is that he wasn’t removed from the premises immediately. Olisa was his usual self the day after the incident, and was seen chatting and laughing with the GM Deji Awokoya (who was well aware of the assault). He was still permitted to do his show on Thursday, and went on to host the Beat of Lagos on Friday night.

We have no idea why the management at Beat FM has decided to treat this so leniently – he has actually been suspended for 2 months and not 4 weeks like you previously stated. Nevertheless, the majority of us feel 2 months is nowhere near enough, we are certain that anyone else would have faced an instant dismissal and possible legal charges.

To clarify details of the incident, the ‘object’ used in the assault was a brick. Olisa initially attacked Dewunmi with his bare hands then went downstairs to retrieve a brick then came back for part 2. He deliberately smashed his phones and dragged him outside, forcing Dewunmi to recover in a Keke Maruwa parked outside the office till 7am when more staff arrived. The incident was caught on CCTV, but will of course never be released. The GM Deji Awokoya apologized to Dewunmi on Olisa’s behalf, and was given about N16,000 for his medical bills. Please note it wasn’t a fight – Olisa attacked Dewunmi, and he refused to hit Olisa back because he considers him an oga. Dewunmi refuses to press charges because he’s afraid he’ll lose his job – furthermore since this incident hit the press, he (Dewunmi) has been receiving death threats saying that he’ll be harmed if this incident escalates further.

Olisa has had several run-ins with members of staff at Megalectrics (owners of Beat FM, Classic FM and Naija FM). On numerous occasions he has verbally abused different people – insulting them, swearing at them and threatening to make their life at Megalectrics ‘a living hell’ if they cross him. Management hasn’t reprimanded Olisa once for this.

This incident is sadly just one of many that involves Olisa Adibua bullying employees at Megalectrics.

To summarize, we hope that the MD of Megalectrics reprimands Olisa ‘appropriately’ to show that this kind of action is unacceptable. Likewise MNet/Glo need to seriously think about the messages they are sending out to the public if they decide to keep Olisa on as a judge for ‘Naija Sings’.

The attention of the management of THE BEAT 99.9FM has been drawn to widespread online and social media reports, regarding an unfortunate incident that occurred between two members of our staff on THE BEAT FM 99.9 FM premises in the early hours of Thursday September 8, 2011.

The management team can confirm that there was an altercation between our Programmes Director Olisa Adibua and our editor Adewunmi Oyekanmi. We are fully investigating the incident and have placed Olisa Adibua on a four-week suspension as a precautionary measure while he cooperates fully with the investigation. Adewunmi Oyekanmi is also assisting us with the investigation.

As a responsible organisation, the management of THE BEAT 99.9FM condemns any form of violence, assault and abuse, and, will not condone any such act by ANY member of staff.

The BEAT of Lagos event that occurred on the 9th of September, in which Olisa co-hosted with our other BEAT 99.9 presenters, was a jointly staged event with a partner. This partner was made aware of the situation and still requested that we honour the existing contract with his firm which stated that all presenters, including Olisa Adibua, be present at the event.

We assure our listeners, friends, partners and all concerned parties that decisive actions will be taken, and enforced. The management of the BEAT 99.9FM is already putting in place measures to prevent a repeat of such an unfortunate incident.
