Facebook Hoax on Privacy and permission notice

THE TRUTH IS THAT ITS A HOAX, A PRANK AND FAKE INFORMATION.

My Facebook friends most especially my lawyer friends has been posting  some Privacy guidelines and Legalese , even well-educated people, who understand how privacy policy of a company works, are also falling victims to this hoax, posting this creepy message on their timeline and encouraging their friends to do the same. The post is as a result of a warning that users Facebook history will be made public unless they copy and paste the message on to their page According to the message, “Channel 13 News” (nope, us neither), have reported on the change to Facebook’s privacy policy, which will become effective from “tomorrow”.

The message goes on to declare that by posting it, the user is forbidding Facebook from making their profile public, and if Facebook ignores it, the message continues, it will be violating laws including the Rome Statute and the UCC 1-308.

The message says any user who wants to avoid their account being made public has to copy and paste it at least once to ensure their privacy.
Here it is in full:

Everything you've ever posted becomes public from tomorrow. Even messages that have been deleted or the photos not allowed. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry. Channel 13 News talked about the change in Facebook's privacy policy.  I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future.

With this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. The content of this profile is private and confidential information. The violation of privacy can be punished by law (UCC 1-308- 1 1 308-103 and the Rome Statute).

NOTE: Facebook is now a public entity. All members must post a note like this. If you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. If you do not publish a statement at least once it will be tactically allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates. DO NOT SHARE. Copy and paste to be on the safe side.

It’s a hoax

If you’re worried about your privacy on Facebook, and thinking of sharing this message, don’t. It’s one of a number of viral Facebook hoaxes, presumably created entirely for the enjoyment of the hoaxer.

While not the first time the post has been widely shared, it appears to be snowballing once again – as a cursory Facebook search shows. It appears to have gone viral in India, and then in true information-age style, effortlessly spread to the UK.

Luckily, Facebook has somewhat more sophisticated security controls, checks and balances than requiring users to copy and paste important-sounding messages. The site has a data policy that governs how information is shared, and states that users select what information is public and private. Only users can turn their posts, photos and so on from private to public.

Besides, citing the Rome Statute (global laws from the International Criminal Court covering war crimes and genocide) and the UCC (the US Uniform Commercial Code), probably isn’t going to do much good.

Facebook has also issued the following statement about this post:
Facebook responded to the hoax status on Wednesday, saying:You may have seen a post telling you to copy and paste a notice to retain control over things you share on Facebook. Don't believe it. Our terms say clearly: You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it's shared through your privacy and application settings. That's how it works, and this hasn't changed.
You can visit Privacy Basics to find out more about who sees what you share on Facebook and other topics.
You can also read the Data Policy to find out what information we collect and how it is used and shared. We want you to be informed and in control of your experience on Facebook.

TAN =N=30,000 monthly salary for Nigerian Graduate?!

There is this information going round and becoming viral on the internet that Nigerian Graduates could earn thirty thousand Naira or in some cases Fifty Thousand Naira if selected in a process after registering as a ONE STAR AMBASSADOR on TAN WEBSITE here is a version of the message

"inform any graduate or student you know to go online and register here http://tan.org.ng/onestar/register.php?id=65583. If successfully selected, the government will be paying them N30,000 monthly for 1year. Companies, organizations and institutions can also register and interns will be sent to them, while government pays the interns N30,000. Please spread the news: See it as an Income/Job opportunity. let's give it a try by registeringTransformation Ambassadors of Nigeria "

The Transformation ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) according to the description on their Facebook fan page is " a non partisan group designed to promote good governance ,individuals of character, fostering the continuation of the transformation by GEJ Goodluck Ebele Jonathan " . i sincerely doubt the information above as it is mos agenda byt likely a misleading one, first TAN is a Non-governmental political organization planning a rally and planning to mobilize thousands of Nigerian citizens to support the political ambition of President Goodluck jonathan in the 2015 presidential election. the organization has many incentives which includes TAN's short movie script competition promising prizes for winners of the said competition but the information that thirty thousand Naira is to be paid by Government for those "selected" as One star ambassadors is most unlikely.

TAN is set up to promote the ambition of the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan so at best the false information that Graduates will earn thirty thousand Naira could be a ploy (perhaps not directly by the organisation ) to increase the number of people mobilized or registered to support the reelection campaign of the president . The TAN organization has dissociated itself from such propaganda on numerous occasions on itsTWITTER HANDLE https://twitter.com/TANconnectgroup and also on it FACEBOOK PAGE    https://www.facebook.com/tannigeria  its definitely a HOAX.

Killer oranges in Nigeria ??!

The text message/ SMS reads    " Please stop sucking Orange the Nigerian Police have announced this morning that they have confirmed 13 people dead in Lagos and the Orange is spreading fast. please inform others, send this to all your Friends and family if you love them- NPF"     JEEZ !!  That was the text message being circulated and there might be others like it....... well it is possible to poison fruits but is this particular one correct information or just an HOAX and FALSE INFO for the consumption of poor and impressionable Nigerians?
TEST- I have heard similar rumours and text messages/SMS  in the past.......in  year 2009,  2010 , 2011 respectively talking about poisoned "SUYA" roasted meat, Beans, Vegetables and more. Important questions to ask here is  the message above clams the Nigerian police is responsible for it. that means the police as usual must have issued press release on the subject matter, if that is true then which media house or any other credible source has this "important information?? Nigerian television Authority NTA (to start with), National news papers? Other television houses? even the Nigerian police website does not have it. for crying out loud i have seen captions like " Family of 6 die after eating Amala and Ewedu" in THE PUNCH News paper, how come non of this rumours that fly round in text messages/SMS does not make it to any credible news source and only rely on " please quickly send to others" ??
   VERDICT
This news is incorrect just like the false rumour of the killer telephone number .............It is a Hoax from somebody who knows Nigerians can believe anything even without proof or credible source, perhaps MTN telecommunication company is being too gracious with too many free text/SMS messages of recent and PRANKSTERS just can not resist the urge to spread their HOAX/ Falsehood through SMS....with MTN Nigeria's new SMS freebies.....i have seen many text messages ranging from MTN's celebrating their Birthday, Killer Telephone Numbers by ritualists  (080200226655) and now Killer oranges all ending with please forward to others and get =N= 7500 free credit with the exception of the last one. Only God knows what next is will come up next week if MTN Nigeria continues to give out free TEXT messages. But thank God the MTN SMS Bonus will stop by August 20 hopefully all this pranks will stop till the next MTN Promo     *LOL *   could this be what the   politicians/ leaders are using to enslave the populace.  LIES, LIES and more LIES !!

is 09141 a killer phone number ??

on the 14th of September 2011 , i got the gist that there is a text message in circulation that there is a deadly killer number being used to call people and once you pick the call, you drop dead, as a rule i do not usually dignify such preposterous discussion with my comments, so i went about my life like i heard nothing about it.
It was not until noon of same day (yesterday) that the rate at which everybody was talking about it got irritating and annoying, obviously the gist has gone round the country , no thanks to GSM phones/text messages. the annoying part was at exactly 2:07 PM while stressing my self making en quires at Guarantee trust bank as to why my international cheque has not been credited into my Domiciliary account i got an SMS alert. excited that it was a notification from the bank, i quickly checked the content. behold the text message reads
Please, don't pick any call with 09141 its instant death after the call, 7 people have died already.please tell others fast, its urgent.
i tried calling the number immediately but was told the number does not even exist in the first place, i also figured out that the number appears to be the date of the day it was sent 091411 just leaving out the last digit, and if you rearrange the number its 14190 !!
If i believe that 09141 is a killer number , then i must also think the world is flat, that having intercourse in the afternoon will produce albino kids and that there are fairies living at the end of my garden.
I then started wondering how this kind of Hoax/rumors thrive in Nigeria, the most annoying part of it is the text went viral and everybody were just forwarding it to family and friends irrespective of religion, ethnic or educational background is it that we are so impressionable??
Is it true that the average Nigerian will believe anything no matter how ridiculous ,or incredibly illogical without asking simple questions relating to the facts put forward such as ascertaining if truly people have died, what location, the time and how it was arrived at that the cause of death was as a result of receiving a phone call placed randomly with the intention of wiping out the entire population.(LOL)
Little wonder , The Government and the dubious politicians that constitute our government has continually put us in bondage by feeding us with all forms of lies knowing the average Nigerian will believe anything and be contended with it. no wonder it is easy for some religious bodies to easily ca joule their followers with the intent of defrauding them , believe me, not everybody under the convicted Reverend King was spiritually hypnotized, we not only suffer from physical poverty as a people in Nigeria but from the poverty of Logic and basic intelligence
Next thing you will hear is Please don't pick "private numbers" (Numbers withheld-no number) 15 people have died so far" that will be enough to prevent dear Nigerians from picking calls with no number and some may even miss important calls as a result of this prank madness. Nonsense !!
