The Fifth presidents Cup Chess championship kicked off on the 1st of July 2015, the nine rounds, Swizz format tournament is organized by the Ghana chess federation in conjunction with Kasparov Chess foundation. The tournament is featuring a number of players from Nigeria, ONOVUGHE OCHUKO EMMANUEL (2152),
ERHABOR DAVID (2055),ODIASE OLUWASEUN (1877), OFOWINO TORITSEMUWA (1753), ARAMUDE SANDRA (1675),CRIM JOMA and AJAYI AYOKANMI, a number of players from the Ivory Coast are also in attendance FM Degondo Simplice (2139) , Manan Yoboue Hermann (2092) and Boua Remi, CM Fumey Enyonam Sewa is flying the Togolese flag at the event while International Master Anqandah Francis Eric tops the list of many players of the host nation Ghana.
The tournament after five rounds of nine and with 4 rounds to go has been very interesting , tournament top seed, Ochuko Onovughe and Manam Yoboue Hermann who shared the point in their round four clash are both on 4½ / 5 and leading the rest of the pack going into round six with one point ahead of their closest rivals. Nigerian female player, Ofowino Toritsemuwa has been very outstanding in her games so far in the tournament with just one point behind the tournament leaders and having lost only one game out of five so far to
CM Thompson Edward Nii Lamptey of Ghana in round 4, she is up against Joma Crim an unrated but relatively strong Nigerian player who is set to join the ranks of FIDE rated players after this encounter. Aramude Sandra another Nigerian female player is also doing well at the event having 2½
/5 having defeated a higher rated Odiase Oluwaseun in round two , however Odiase seems to have found his rhythm after the shock defeat and is on a 3 game winning streak going into round 6 with 3/5 points. FM Degondo Simplice Armel of Ivory coast is now on 3/5 points despite forfeiting round two and his shock defeat in round three to
a much lower rated opponent
