5TH PRESIDENT'S CUP CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP FIDE RATED (Round 1-5)

The Fifth presidents Cup Chess championship  kicked off on the 1st of July 2015, the nine rounds, Swizz format tournament is organized by the Ghana chess federation in conjunction with Kasparov Chess foundation. The tournament is featuring a number of players from Nigeria, ONOVUGHE OCHUKO EMMANUEL (2152),  ERHABOR DAVID (2055),ODIASE OLUWASEUN (1877), OFOWINO TORITSEMUWA (1753), ARAMUDE SANDRA (1675),CRIM JOMA and AJAYI AYOKANMI, a number of players from the Ivory Coast are also in attendance FM Degondo Simplice (2139) , Manan Yoboue Hermann (2092)  and  Boua Remi, CM Fumey Enyonam Sewa is flying the Togolese flag at the event while International Master  Anqandah Francis Eric  tops the list of many players of the host nation Ghana.

The tournament after five rounds of nine and with 4 rounds to go has been very interesting , tournament top seed, Ochuko Onovughe  and Manam Yoboue Hermann who shared the point in their round four clash are both on 4½ / 5  and leading the rest of the pack going into round six with one point ahead of their closest rivals. Nigerian female player, Ofowino Toritsemuwa  has been very outstanding in her games so far in the tournament with just one point behind the tournament leaders and having lost only one game out of five so far to CM Thompson Edward Nii Lamptey of Ghana in round 4, she is up against Joma Crim an unrated but relatively  strong Nigerian player who is set to join the ranks of FIDE rated players after this encounter. Aramude Sandra another Nigerian female player is also doing well at the event having 2½ /5 having defeated  a higher rated Odiase Oluwaseun in round two , however Odiase seems to have found his rhythm after the shock defeat and is on a 3 game winning streak going into round 6 with 3/5 points.  FM Degondo Simplice Armel of Ivory coast is now on 3/5 points despite forfeiting round two and   his shock defeat in round three to   a much lower rated opponent  Ghanaian Kpodo Evans Mawuko (1660 ). The race for the top spot is very hot with CM FUMEY ENYONAM SEWA CM Fumey Enyonam Sewa (2870) is squared against joint Onovughe Ochuko on board one while  Manam Yoboue Hermann is up against Anqandah Francis Eric on board two.  see below the pairings for Round 6 and also the Ranking list after five rounds. courtesy Chess-result.com

LAGOS MILLIONAIRE SATELLITE CHESS FESTIVAL 2015

Hey! Who wants to be a Chess millionaire? i guess that is the caption that should best describe the Lagos Millionaire Satellite Chess Festival 2015 , a FIDE rated Chess event taking place in Gbagada , Lagos state at the moment, The first 6 rounds of 9 of the event has been very competitive and this is only Logical taking a quick glance at the stakes involved ,the Overall winner will receive free entry,Flight, accommodation, and meal allowance to facilitate their participation in Millionaire Chess ,all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas U.S.A for the Main millionaire Open Event  that will be held October 8- 12 , 2015   !!
The  tournament entered its round 7 with  very interesting games and highly unpredictable games on the top board  CM Uwana Eugene popularly known as 'The wild one'who  lost his first round game Manan Yoboue Hermann from Ivory Coast has shot himself back into the number one rank by winning five games in a row by defeating Cole Michael Christopher, Fabeyo Fredrick, Fajemirokun Abimbola, Osunfuyi Abimbola, and IM Olape respectively thereby throwing the top boards open as Uwana Eugene and IM Olape who are both on 5 points are the tournament leaders but are faced with some stiff opposition in the form of  CM Adesina Adeyinka   and CM Femi Balogun (winner of the 2015 C4 tournament) respectively both players are will be highly motivated to fight the top pointers as they are just half a point behind. following closely on board three  Anwuli Daniel is squared against  Obioma Onuoha  with both players  also on 4.5/6 and still very much in contention, Obioma Onuoha who is of the older generation of master chess players in Nigeria started the tournament with a four game winning steak before being halted by IM Olape in round 5, Daniel Anwuli on the other hand belongs to the young generation of Master chess players and is currently ranked second in the under 18 age Category on the African Continent making the board 3 old vs new school clash very difficult to predict. Oluwaseyitan Femi (4points) is up against Osunfuyi Abimbola (4 points) in another clash of Old vs new generation of Players. The top boards going into round 7 is very volatile and the players knows they can not afford any careless slip at this point, it is still very difficult to predict a likely first place winner as  the players on top boards are   all very capable of having a heroic  last three rounds.
A number of players pulled out of this event due to its tough nature as they could no longer cope with the excruciating competitive  heat of the tournament !! below is a table of the Ranking after 6 rounds and also the round 7 pairings courtesy Chess-result server.
