Wellington Jighere of Nigeria becomes the World scrabble Champion !!

Wellington Jighere  of  Nigeria in a record breaking feat has won the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA)), Scrabble World Championship to become the first Nigerian and African to win the Scrabble world Championship/title. It was an historic day as Wellington broke the record ! Wellington also placed 3rd at the World Scrabble Championship in 2007 and has been very competitive for many years. Nigeria has also been the best Scrabble playing Nation in africa for a long time.
 At the end of a 32 round word battle on the scrabble board Wellington Jighere and  English  Lewis Mackay qualified to play against each other in a best of seven (7) games playoff to determine the WESPA World champion , wellington led on the final ranking and thus had an easy qualification as a finalist for the playoff  It took until the last round after 2 straight games between Lewis Mackay (ENG) and Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) for Lewis to emerge as the second finalist in the playoff match. Wellington defeated   Lewis Mackay  by winning the first four games of the marathon  playoff and was thus declared the winner of the encounter having won by a margin of 4-0  after an intense battle.

Esther Perrins of Australia finished in third (3rd) place with 22 points +1125, the highest ever finish by a female in the history of the World Championship.

Defending Champion England's Craig Beevers could only manage a ninth (9th) place finish 20 +913, while World number 1, Nigel Richards of New Zealand finished in eight (8th) position with 20 +1287.
