Nigeria Chess Federation President’s Open Chess Cup 2014.(FIDE RATED TOURNAMENT)

The First edition of the Nigeria Chess Federation President’s Open Chess cup  will come up in Warri, Delta State from 10th-13th of December.

 Mr. Lekan Adeyemi, The NIGERIA CHESS FEDERATION President disclosed over the weekend that the idea to organise the tournament is as a result of the the determination of the present board of NCF to increase the level of playing opportunities for the numerous chess players in the country.

“I have conceived the idea of a tournament like this over the years and expectedly, our players no doubt expected a lot from me and it is my duty not to disappoint them,”  he said.

10th – 13th December 2014
Playing system
7 rounds swiss using swiss manager pairing program.
Time control
(90-90 min for 40 moves, then 30-30min/all) + 30 sec. after each move
Start of the rounds
Morning rounds 9:00am, Afternoon rounds 2:00pm

Participants can register with the NCF Secretary at the NCF National stadium secretariat Lagos state.


The following tie-break system will be used to determine the title of tournament champion only:

· Bucholz
· Sonneborn-Berger
All cash prizes will be shared amongst players ending on the same number of points.
