Nigeria presents worthy representatives at African Individual Chess Championships 2014



The African Individual Chess Championships 2014  earlier announced on this blog is scheduled to hold between  13th  and 22nd day of December 2014 in Namibia , The Open section of the tourney  will feature three Nigerian Chess Players Namely      CM Kigigha Bomo (2291)  , CM Fawole John Oyeyemi (2214) and  Osunfuyi Abimbola (2190)    . The Nigerian Chess federation's Nominated Player is Osunfuyi Abimbola who also is known as Young GM . while Candidate Master Kigigha Bomo  who is the Current National Champion and the Highest rated player in Nigeria and  Candidate Master  Fawole John Oyeyemi  who is the immediate past National Champion are going to participate on  SPECIAL INVITATION based on their  nomination by  The African Chess Confederation President.      The List displayed on the chess-result server  for the OPEN SECTION  as as at today displays  three Grand Masters , Seven International masters, Six FIDE Masters  and  Seven Candidate Masters with a total of  33 players from 18 African Countries .  The Tournament will be a NINE (9) Round swiss event  and  the Time control is 90min for 1st 40moves + 30min + 30sec incr/moved
Take Note that the title regulations changed in July 2014 and the tournament now grants an automatic GM title to the winner of the men's section and an automatic WGM title to the winner of the ladies section.   The tournament  from the calibre of Players stated above promises to be very tough  but the Nigerian Representation no doubt are all worthy warrior on the chess board and  are capable of doing well in this tournament , The Tournament is  very Important for Nigerian Chess as Nigeria continues in her quest to becoming a force to reckon with in the Game of Chess,

 For the FEMALE SECTION  , Nigeria is represented by WCM Rabiu Olabisi (1489) and  Ofowino Toritsemuwa (yet to be rated) WCM Rabiu Olabisi is participating based on Nomination by the African Chess Confederation President.

I was expecting Shorungbe Ademola on that list. He is stronger...

Sorungbe Ademola is Very Strong but each federation is limited to 3 players, i think Sorungbe will still have his chances in the future because he is just as good as the best in Nigeria, they are all very strong .and i believe the three playing now will do us proud
